The gastroenterology field took a giant step forward when Given Imaging developed the PillCam™ capsule endoscope - the first ingestible camera in a pill for detection of GI disorders. The PillCam™ capsule is easily ingested by the patient and transmits high quality color images that enable physicians to directly visualize parts of the GI tract. Capsule endoscopy is the only available ingestible diagnostic tool that allows direct visualization of the small intestine.
While working in the missile division of Rafael, Dr. Gabi Iddan was the first to lay the foundations of this truly innovate RDC project, in which missile technology was miniaturized to create a medical product.
The project began as a wholly-owned subsidiary of RDC back in 1998 and is now worldwide market leader traded on the NASDAQ and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (GIVN).
"My research on missile technology at Rafael led me to an inspiration, But convincing to make an in-house investment in this dream turned out to be a challenge in itself. At RDC I found a team of dedicated people, who not only opened the door for the realization of this breakthrough application, but also built a comprehensive strategy and tirelessly worked through the entire process with the entire team. Their priceless advice, guidance and accessibility helped to accelerate Given Imaging's business all over the world."
